Acupuncture & Quitting Smoking: Great Alternative to Break the Habit

Breaking the cigarette habit definitely takes lots of mental strength and acquired discipline. After all, nicotine is an addictive substance that alters the chemicals in the brain so that your pleasure points light up when you light up. As the brain gets dependent on this artificial feel-good substance, it needs more and more of it to achieve the same level of high. This is really a vicious cycle that is difficult to break. And the numbers show. Almost 70% of Americans smoking said they have tried to quit, only to start smoking again once their cravings came back. It usually takes about three or more attempts before finally being able to quit for good.
Acupuncture has become an increasingly popular alternative approach to help smoking cessation because acupuncture helps to reduce withdrawal symptoms and does not have side effects that are common from conventional smoking cessation methods.
Will acupuncture really work?
We get this question all the time. When you truly make up your mind to quit smoking, you have already won half the battle. Acupuncture treatment will help you even further along, helping to reduce cravings, alleviate irritability, and lessen anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms that are typically experienced.
What to expect during your treatment?
The idea of having needles stuck in you can be quite a scary thought, but there is no need to be scared. Unlike most of the needles we are used to seeing, acupuncture needles are hair thin. There are certain points that the needles are inserted. After your treatment, a small pellet is taped to specific acupuncture points on the ear. Pressing on the pellets when you are craving a cigarette stimulates the acupuncture point and helps to ease the mind and eliminate your craving to smoke.
Acupuncture and quit smoking indeed go well together!
